Final reflections on Isaac Hutchinson following his transfer to Doncaster Rovers

When I was the first to reveal that Rovers had reached an agreement on Isaac Hutchinson's exit, the bulk of the deal had already been done. Both club and player had reached agreements with Doncaster Rovers and it was just the medical left to complete the transfer. It brought to an end a player saga like few we've seen.

Shortly afterwards I posted the following on X:

"Hutch was one of those players heavily impacted by the messy transition of ownership at Bristol Rovers. Withdrawn from lineups pre-awakening and given false assurances post-awakening.

Add to that being the focal point of criticism for many supporters expressing dismay at a poor performing squad. And a probably profound trauma for his partner caused by a supporter.

None of that would make me produce my best form.

His father has come in for overwhelming criticism, I cant speak to other people's communications with him but our brief interactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Not because I haven't criticised Isaac's form, but because I've generally been fair and balanced.

Isaac's talent is undeniable. And so is the perception that he didn't give his all for this club. I for one wish him all the best in realising his potential.

Do not underestimate the impact the ownership transition had on that squad - I've spoken directly to several members of that playing squad who were "upset" at the way they were treated. So much so that they will never play for these owners again.

Moving forward though, I'm confident the signs are there that lessons have been learned (the "awakening"). Evans takes no prisoners and the owner appears to be back on track. I hope I'm right!"
